Code of Conduct

At Drouin Devils Basketball Club, we strive to foster a positive and inclusive environment where we:

Inspire a lifelong love of basketball through inclusive and age-appropriate programs.
Develop confident, respectful players who value effort, teamwork, and growth.
Provide a safe, positive space where young athletes can thrive both on and off the court.
Build strong community ties through shared passion, volunteering, and club pride.

Always play to the best of your ability and with a positive attitude.
Respect your teammates, coaches, referees, and opponents at all times.
Play by the rules and accept all referee decisions without protest.
Pass, support and play as a team - not just focus on scoring.
Support and encourage your teammates - never ridicule others for mistakes.
Take pride in your appearance, punctuality, and behaviour on and off the court.
Commit to training sessions and games and communicate if you are unable to attend.
Refrain from using offensive, racist, sexist, or abusive language.
Be gracious in victory and respectful in defeat.
Use social media responsibly - do not post content that could bring the club or others into disrepute.
Wear your team uniform with pride and represent the Drouin Devils in a respectful manner.

Encourage and celebrate effort, good sportsmanship and teamwork above points or wins
Never ridicule or scold your child for making a mistake or losing a game.
Respect all referees’ decisions and teach children to do the same.
Do not approach or confront referees directly - any concerns must be directed to the team manager or club representative.
Support team staff, coaches, and volunteers - they give their time for your child's benefit.
Be present and engaged - ensure supervision and support at all games and training.
Participate in team responsibilities such as scoring, timekeeping, or other volunteer roles.
Do not use inappropriate language or display aggressive behaviour.
Respect all club and venue rules regarding smoking, vaping, and alcohol (venues are smoke- and alcohol-free zones).
Avoid sharing any content on social media that could harm the club’s reputation.

Show respect for all players, coaches, referees, and officials.
Cheer and support in a positive way - no yelling abuse or negative comments.
Refrain from coaching from the sidelines - let the coaches do their job.
Accept referee decisions as final - do not argue or confront them.
Applaud good play by both teams, not just your own.
Refrain from swearing, aggressive behaviour, or inciting hostility.
Support a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone involved.
Follow venue rules, including no smoking, vaping, or alcohol.
Use social media responsibly and avoid content that may damage the reputation of players, officials, or the club.

All players, parents, coaches, and spectators acknowledge that referees are essential to the game and must be treated with respect.
Referees are to be supported in their decisions and protected from abuse.
Any behavioural issues concerning referees must be addressed through the team manager or designated club official.
Abusive language or behaviour toward referees will not be tolerated and will result in disciplinary action.

Breaches of this Code of Conduct will be addressed through the Drouin Devils’ Complaints Process. Sanctions may include:
